Geka completes independent carbon footprint assessment

Cosmetics packaging and accessories manufacturer Geka has completed an independent verification of its carbon footprint in a bid to find opportunities to help reduce its CO2 emissions.

Germany-based TÜV NORD’s CO2 inventory certificate assessed four Geka sites in Germany, the US and Brazil. The process calculated the facilities’ carbon emissions from fuel and energy consumption (gas, diesel, district heating, propane, electricity and company vehicle fuel consumption), as well as energy emissions upstream and from business travel. The assessment provides Geka with an overview of the company’s current emissions.

Long-term value with an innovative strategy

After the acquisition through Sulzer and the re-establishment of the management team GEKA is currently undergoing a phase of transformation and is steadily working on providing an ideal service to their customers: Speed-to-market in its best performance. Since February, the team worked on a new strategy and now we are proud having defined our corporate vision.

The strategy was developed using the method for strategy and target setting Hoshin Kanri, translated from Japanese meaning “compass”, which integrates all the managers apart from the top-management into the process and strengthens the team spirit. Here the objectives are cascaded and aligned cross-functional across all hierarchy levels. We as a company want to involve our employees in the process of developing a strategy; leadership competences and self-development but especially the sense of identification with the company and their goals are the logical consequences. Therefore, there are no further obstacles for a continuous improvement: We stay best in class and guarantee a maximum of agility.

Mascara made in Germany - Design, quality and innovation

Time is money, and the world of beauty is no exception to this rule. Before a new mascara finds its way into the stores, it goes through an extensive development process. Although they may look similar, all mascaras are different. Eyelashes are individual, and different cultures prefer different styles. http://bit.ly/2FiEraw

So far, mascara brush prototypes have been produced from a hard plastic material using a 3D CAD (computer-aided design) drawing. This could take up to 18 weeks because the manufacturer had to make a drawing, create visual patterns through 3D printing, adjust the drawings to customer needs, and create a pilot tool for the injection molding process. For every single mascara bristle, a small hole – called a cavity – needed to be milled into the injection mold. With the prototype, customers had the opportunity to evaluate the brushes visually. However, the bristles were too stiff to actually test them under real conditions. Further, the production process took a long time and was expensive.

Our product "Midnight seduction #1" that was launched at last year's Luxepack Monaco has been selected and will be presented on the Innovation Tree at MakeUp in LosAngeles. This slightly woman-shaped 1K mascara brush creates provokingly curled and voluminous nightlife lashes.

The tip design guarantees a smudge-free application with major volume and easily reworking of upper and lower lashes. The packaging appears gracefully with its gradual lacquering from black to seductive red.

MakeUp in New York: About face

On September 7-8, more than 2,800 visitors crowded the aisles of MakeUp in New York and climbed up and down the four flights of stairs at Center 548 in Manhattan, glad to be back at the Chelsea venue rather than at the Brooklyn location that had been proposed. According to show management, attendance was up 15% over last year’s event held near Penn Station. For 2016, MakeUp in NewYork partnered with CIBS, CEW, FIT and Michel & Augustin.

At this year’s 6th New York edition, about 65% of exhibitors specialized in formulation and full service activities, and were joined by companies in the packaging and accessories sectors.

In addition to a vibrant show floor, a dynamic two-day conference program drew more than 900 visitors.

From March 17th until 20th Cosmopack Bologna opened its doors again. Appointment of Gerald Oehlhorn as CEO of OEKA Tech Automotive GmbH

As part of the acquisition of OEKA Oehlhorn GmbH & Co KG i.I. (OEKA), based in Bamberg, by the GEKA Group (GEKA), the OEKA TECH activities were transferred to the new company OEKA Tech Automotive GmbH (OEKA TECH). Gerald Oehlhorn, former CEO and owner of OEKA, has been appointed CEO of OEKA TECH and will effectively take over the position on July 13, 2015. Benefitting from his wide-range and profound knowledge of the OEKA organization and TECH business activities Mr Oehlhorn will drive the future strategic and operational development of OEKA TECH together with the whole team. Nikolaus Michelsen, CFO of GEKA, will remain as second Managing Director of OEKA TECH to represent the shareholders.

Anne Querard wurde zur neuen Group Marketing Direktorin benannt.

Anne Querard wurde zur neuen Group Marketing Direktorin benannt und folgt damit auf Pilar González Gómez, die sich nun vollständig auf ihre Rolle als Head of Sales Germany, Northern & Eastern Europe konzentriert.

Anne Querard bringt umfangeiche Erfahrungen aus dem Luxussektor, der Kosmetik- und Nahrungsmittelindustrie mit. Diese hat sie über viele Jahre hinweg insbesondere durch verschiedene internationale leitende Marketingpositionen gesammelt wie bei Danone und der Mars Gruppe. Zuletzt war sie internationale Marketingleiterin und Mitglied des globalen Führungsteams der Matis Group, einem Spezialisten auf dem Kosmetik- und Wellness-Markt. Davor baute sie die Marketingberatungsfirma „Harmoninside“ auf, welche auf Innovationen und Wellness spezialisiert war, sowie im B2C- und B2B-Umfeld agierte.

Anne Querard wird in GEKAs Pariser Büro ansässig sein und an Amaury de Menthière, Group Chief Executive Officer, berichten.

Since January 2015 the new edition of the encyclopedia about German world market leaders “Lexikon der Deutschen Weltmarktführer” is available and we are proud to be part again. The book offers an intersectoral overview of companies, which, like GEKA, are medium-sized and have reached an outstanding position on the world markets with their products.

“German world leading companies stand for quality and technology leadership. These strengths and performance are very often not widely known to the broad public” says editor Dr. Florian Langenscheidt.
